The majestic Martinez!

La Croisette.... Cannes´beautiful beach promenade and host to the star studded film festival, is probably one of, if not THE most fancy ocean front promenades in the whole world. Palm trees, sunny blue skies, one luxury store and hotel after the other, there´s no wonder the rich and famous flock this "beach town" in the summer. One of the hippest and most luxurious hotels on the "strip" is Martinez which is home to most Hollywood stars during the festival. It sits right across the beach and has a long dock that reaches out in the Mediterranean where stars arrive on the red carpet. During non-festival times, this dock is packed with chaise-lounges where guests can sip on fruity cocktails while soaking in the sun and being waited on by tan French waiters.
What´s better than that??!!
With only a few more nights in France, we had to check out the hotels beach bar which sits right on the sand and serves up some delicious drinks and the best Vin Rose in glasses the size of fish bowls. Last night we were entertained by a local DJ who played songs that we hadn´t heard in years... some of our very favorites. Crashing waves and lights all along the Croisette, this was the best place to sit. Great company, great music and the majestic Martinez hotel in the background... it was a a great night.
Next year I think we´ll have to come back for the festival in May...
A bientot!

Fete Nationale in France

Today is Bastille Day in France which symbolizes the end of the Monarchy and the beginning of what is now called the First French Republic. The Bastille, a prison at the time, was stormed on July 14, 1789. This event came to represent the end of the king's power and the transfer of power to the people.

Today the French celebrate all over the country and I thought I´d make my way through Cannes tonight to see what festivities they have planned for here. In Paris they have the most spectacular parades down the Champs Elysees and fireworks high above the LÁrc de Triomphe and I imagine the Riviera is quick to follow... at least with the firework displays.

Greetings from...

The French Riviera!! I´m sorry the my posts have been few and far between the past week or two, but I was rushing to get work done before leaving for vacation and now I am finally here... on the French Riviera. Cannes to be exact... which has to be the most beautiful city down here. But today we ventured into Nice to go to the famous antiques market. Maybe it was because of the really scorching hot temperatures, but there were fewer tables than usual, but lots of tourists still flocked the stands to look at all the little nick-nacks. It´s fun to walk around and look but I rarely buy anything since the prices are especially jacked up during the summer season. It´s a pretty overprized market to begin with, but this time of year I think they mark everything up just for the tourists. I took some pictures, but in my rush to pack before my trip, I left my camera cable at home so I can´t put up any pictures. I´ll do that as soon as I´m back in the shop.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer and hope to see some of you in the shop in August.

If you want to stop in and buy something while I am gone.. the shop is open from 1pm - 6 pm tuesday - friday all of july!

Have a great summer!
Kristina
